Packaging Systems Inc. has been a lead in converter for the new Greencell bio-degradable packaging foam. The current success of the Greencell has been for electronic and glass packaging because of its anti-static and cushioning properties respectively.
More recent markets are emerging for the use of the Greencell sheet material as an insulator for overseas shipments of frozen foods and pharmaceuticals.
Greencell is naturally anti-static, absorbs fluids, and is chemically resistant to oils and corrosive fluids. These properties are useful for packages with contained liquids and electrical or electrical-mechanical components.

Greencell is a bio-degradable foam made from corn starch. The material is available in sheets or planks.
Greencell when exposed to high humidity over an extended period of time will lose shape and properties but does not dissappear unless agitated in a water bath. Within 100 days Greencell will be decomposed in a landfill.
A Greencell pack contained in a closed carton with or without hand holes will not degrade. Windshield glass packs stored in a warehouse for over 1 year have been used for global shipments without glass breakage.
Greencell is competitively priced between expanded polystyrene and polypropolyene ( PE) or polypropolyene (PP). It is a good candidate for cost saving as a replacement for PE or PP.
